The Sly Fox belongs to the American Booksellers Association, the Great Lakes Booksellers Association, the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association, and the Virden Area Association of Commerce.
Our Mystery Choices. The Sly Fox offers a wonderful selection of midlist, backlist, small, press, and other hard-to-find mysteries. And we have a number of mysteries published in England and imported to the United States. The Sly Fox is the only open shop mystery bookstore in downstate Illinois and the only one on one of the alignments of Historic Route 66.
Local Authors. Over the past years The Sly Fox has slowly added a number of books from local authors. Most of these were self-published, but they have met with a good reaction from customers. Several of them have sold quite well.
Abraham Lincoln Books. Illinois is the Land of Lincoln, and The Sly Fox bookstore is located near Springfield, Lincoln's hometown. Andrew Ferguson remarks in the preface to his new book “Land of Lincoln: Reflections on Abe's America”: “More books have been written about Abraham Lincoln than about any other American - nearly fourteen thousand in all - and at least half of those books begin by saying that more books have been written about Abraham Lincoln than about any other American.” This book is available in both a hardback edition and a paperback edition. We are not going to list all books, but we've chosen many of them to stock in the store.

Teachers, Schools, Libraries. The Sly Fox offers a discount to the following: teachers and schools for classroom purposes; public and school libraries; non-profit organizations to further their purposes. The Sly Fox also does bulk orders of books for teachers. And it has provided books to the Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an organization of active and retired women teachers. They donate the books to the Macoupin County WIC program to be distributed during well baby visits.
