Dance Center Evanston offers strong technical training in Ballet, and encourages students to take Modern Dance which, in addition to technique, uses improvisatory exercises to stimulate personal creativity and freedom of movement. Jazz and Tap classes offer opportunities to enhance rhythm, musicality, and fun. Dance Center Evanston is the home of the Evanston Dance Ensemble, a non profit performing company which gives talented and dedicated advanced level students at DCE an opportunity to perform in professionally produced productions. Our Classes The Primary Division (ages 3 to 7) is an exciting introduction to the world of dance designed especially for the young beginner. The main goal of the primary program is to help the young student enjoy the process of learning dance by keeping it fun and encouraging. Scarves, bean bags, hula hoops, and fans are used to enhance the child`s exploration of shape, level, and the daynamics of movement. The Student Division (ages 7 and up) lays the groundwork for all future dance training. Lower level classes are taught slowly and carefully in order to emphasize proper posture and placement, while upper level student division classes work on the coordination of the full body in jumps, turns, and leaps. Ballet classes teach all of the basic positions, proper execution of the turn out of the leg, correct use of the feet, arms, and head, and the French Ballet vocabulary. Ballet helps develop strength, flexibility, musicality, and grace. Modern classes complement the Ballet program and expand students` movement vocabulary with a free and expressive style of dance. The Academy Program challenges the advanced level student dancer both technically and artistically. It is designed to prepare them for the potential next step in their training, either in a college program or in a professional setting. Academy students enroll in Ballet, Pointe, Modern, and Jazz, but are also welcome to add Tap add Hip Hop to their schedules.
