Dance Academy of Libertyville has long enjoyed the reputation for providing quality dance training. The faculty is composed of highly qualified professionals who have years of experience as teachers, performers, and choreographers. We have a graded curriculum starting at Level 1(the most basic) and progressing through Level 8( the most advanced). Auditions are not required; however, a placement class is needed to determine an appropriate level for new students. Our Classes: Pre-Ballet is an introduction of basic motor skills and coordination for young children. This program incorporates basic ballet into age appropriate exercises and games. The use of hula-hoops, bean-bags, ribbons, fabric, and baskets help to make learning fun. Ballet is a formalized style of movement that started in courts of Europe. It has established terminology and sets of exercises that are incorporated into barre and then center work. Body placement, posture, balance, flexibility, and coordination are stressed. Training in Ballet is essential to the skilled development of all dance forms. Jazz borrows from Modern and Ballet technique and develops stylistically. Therefore, it is wise, and strongly recommended, to study Ballet and/or Modern concurrently with Jazz. Classes consist of a warm-up, floor stretch, center barre, progressions and center combinations. Modern evolved from the "breaking of the rules" of strict Ballet. Exploration of the basic elements of dance- time, space, energy, relationships and the coordination of our bodies- builds on the student`s natural creativity to develop an understanding of the essence of all dance forms. It complements Ballet and Jazz training and is highly recommended for intermediate and advanced dancers. Pre - Tap is an introduction of basic Tap for young children. Musical Rhythms, creativity, and self-esteem development are stressed. Tap is rhythmic footwork done with special shoes designed for Tap. The emphasis is placed on rhythm, style, and clarity of sounds. Tap is an excellent way to develop a good sense of rhythm, timing and stage presence.
