Women's Center Offers Digital Mammography
When it’s time for your mammogram, whether baseline or annual screening, you want state-of-the-art equipment, skilled staff, education and - just as important - warmth, caring, and confidentiality. All of that can be found inside the OSF Saint Anthony Women’s Center. Digital mammogram equipment, as well as Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) technology that accompanies the radiologists’ reading of mammograms, demonstrates that the OSF is committed to providing up-to-date care.
Breast Cancer Screening Tool Developed at OSF Saint Anthony
Kent F. Hoskins, MD, director of the cancer risk assessment program at the OSF Saint Anthony Center for Cancer Care, has developed a Pedigree Assessment Tool helps determine a woman's risk for developing a genetically-related breast cancer. We are making the tool available at no cost.
OSF Wound Center Opens
In October 2008, the new OSF Wound Healing Center (WHC) opened in the Northern Illinois Medical Arts building in front of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
While the majority of patients have complications from diabetes, the specially trained physicians can also treat patients who have non-healing surgical wounds, skin grafts, radiation wounds, pressure ulcers, peripheral insufficiency, burns or crush injuries.
Patients can be referred to the WHC by their physician or can make appointments without a referral.
For some patients, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) will be prescribed. The WHC has two hyperbaric oxygen chambers which surround patients with 100 percent oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure. HBO benefits patients with diabetic foot ulcers, carbon monoxide poisoning, bone infections, radiation injuries, skin grafts and burns.
OSF Saint Anthony Physicians First in Area to Perform Radiosurgery
The OSF Illinois Neurosciences Institute and the Center for Cancer Care at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center announced the availability of stereotactic radiosurgery in the Rock River Valley.
Physicians from the OSF Illinois Neurosciences Institute and the OSF recently performed the first stereotactic radiosurgery in our region.
New Animal-Assisted Therapy
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the first hospital in the area to offer animal-assisted therapy to our patients because we believe in treating the emotional as well as the physical needs of our patients. Animal Assisted Therapy uses highly trained animals and handlers to help patients achieve specific physical, social, cognitive, and emotional goals.
